Voyage Drama and Gender Politics, 1589-1642

About this book

This study explores the use of allegory in Renaissance travel drama. Recent criticism has shown how travel writing tells two stories: it describes events in colonial locations and speaks to the wishes of the home nation. This book further develops our understanding of the allegorical nature of colonial discourse by focusing on the negotiations between gender and monarchy in "geographic" drama.
