About this book
Wofford College's copy of "Rules of the Supreme Court" belonged to M.C. Butler (1836-1909), who was a general in the Confederate Army, a judge on the Supreme Court of South Carolina, and later a prominent three-term U.S. Senator. His copy of "Rules" is bound with "Acts and Joint Resolutions of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, Passed at the Regular Session of 1869-'70, Part II, Containing the Code [that is, the Code of Procedure of the State of South Carolina]." The jointly bound works contain over 20 pages of Butler's notes, all in his hand in ink, offering insight into recontruction-era law in South Carolina. Some of the notes are on lined notebook paper bound with the works
